Long known for its extensive list of high-end clientele, Gstaad is opening up a new package to up the ante on your winter getaway. They are now offering an hour-long helicopter ride that includes a picnic lunch consumed at over 10,000 feet of elevation. Following take off, you’ll be given a glass of champagne to accompany your view, as you begin to rise over the mountain peak.

The pilot will take you on a tour of the sweeping Alpine landscape, hovering over peak after peak dotted with villages straight out of a postcard. The centerpiece of the trip is Switzerland’s most famous mountaintop, the Matterhorn, which towers above the tiny town of Zermatt. After a thorough look at Zermatt and its celebrated ski slopes, you’ll ascend once more in order to partake in a picnic perched on the top of a glacier. Refuge l’Espace is an old style mountain lodge, set at an astounding 10,000 feet.

While there, you can warm your body and soul with hot sausages, truffle scented cheese, and of course, roasted potatoes. The hearty Swiss comfort food is just what you need to keep the chill away as you overlook the snowcapped view. Don’t forget to leave room for dessert, as their tarte Tatin is divine, especially when topped with locally sourced whipped cream.

As you descend back towards Gstaad on your return journey, soak in the passing mountain tops once more. If the sight of all of that snow makes you shiver, just remember, the Gstaad Palace has an incredible spa equipped with cozy steam rooms and a genuine hammam.
