Blue Prosecco Is What You Should Be Drinking This Summer

Whether it be with friends, family or even by yourself with a good book, it makes perfect sense to kick back under the indigo sky during the summertime.

Blumond Prosecco

And a cool bottle of bubbly is always a great lubricant for smooth summer vibes. If this is the type of relaxation that you’re looking for, we have the perfect potion for you: a sky blue prosecco, called Blumond.

The drink comes from Italian wine company Fratelli Saraceni, but in the strictest sense of the word, Blumond isn’t technically a wine. The prosecco is a concoction of sparkling wine, blue curaçao and peach.

But these are all ingredients that you’d associate with the perfect summer day, wherever you may be. The end result is a sweet beverage with a fruity zest. And in case we didn’t make it clear enough by now: it’s blue!

Saraceni’s website describes Blumond as “a velvety and seductive sparkling wine that is deliciously fruity and presented in an exclusive and well recognizable bottle.”

After becoming a hit in both the U.S. and China, Blumond is now ready to take on the European market. Its first stop will be the Italian island of Sicily. However, some locals are opposed to the idea of the blue prosecco.

The reason for the disapproval is that wine in Italy needs to be at least 10 percent alcoholic in order to be officially labelled in the category. Blumond just falls short of this bare minimum, at a modest 7 percent. This could prove to be problematic for Saraceni, and could force the company to relabel the drink.

Some sommeliers have even gone as far to say that Blumond is an insult to Italy’s wine culture. One wine critic described it as “colored liquids, dumb-downed hybrids with a watered-down percentage of alcohol.”

At any rate, there will be many fans who don’t care about these sort of intricacies. You can rest assured that they will be desperate to take snaps of the beautiful blue prosecco for their Instagram accounts.
