Food with high water content will not only keep us cool in the summer heat but also keep us hydrated! Watermelon is a great choice because it’s packed full of vitamins, nutrients, and water. Plus, it’s really delicious. If you find yourself burning up, reach for the watermelon instead of the ice lollies.
Of course, salad is an excellent idea when the weather is too hot. However, there are some ingredients you’re going to want to make sure you’ve definitely included. Cucumber, green peppers, celery and iceberg lettuce all have really high water contents, which means that they’ll be perfect for keeping you cool in the summer heat.
This is another fruit that’s ideal for a warm, sunny day. It’s got a high water content that will keep you hydrated, but it’s also like drinking a big glass of OJ – so it’s delicious too. Oranges are also packed with Vitamin C which we could all do with more of.
Avoid Ice Cream
It may seem weird, but ice cream could actually make you hotter according to some scientists! When our bodies try to digest rich foods like ice cream, they generate heat which then warms us up even more. We may think that we’re doing ourselves a favor by digging into something icy cold, but our bodies will have to work harder to break down the nutrients.
The next time you get too hot, reach for one of these foods instead of the ice cream!
