Despite not being a domestic company, this is the first vegan burger to be offered at any German fast-food chain. This will mark the first time the German franchise of the fast-food chain has offered a vegan burger to its customers. “Improving for us means that we are brave enough to try new ways,” says Philipp Wachholz, company spokesman for McDonald’s Germany.
According to market research company Skopos, the count of people in Germany adhering to a plant-based diet topped 1.3 million people by 2016. And as big of a number as that seems, it’s even more significant considering that it’s increasing at a steady rate in a country with a long history of culturally appreciated meat consumption. So…it’s time to listen to their interests – and their palates.
The Big Vegan TS burger features a soy and wheat-based patty, served in the classic sesame seed bun with all of the regular dressings: lettuce, tomato, pickles, and red onion.
Meanwhile, at Mcdonald’s China, something is offered that might appease more Germans than even German McDonalds: the German Sausage Double Beef Burger, featuring two beef patties topped with two bratwurst sausages. Considering there are more bratwurst-enthusiasts than vegans in Germany still, this might have been the more profitable move – but to that we say…why not both?
